Dealing With Travel Complaints While Flying

Posted on 11.13.11

Common Complaints And How To Cope With Them When You Travel

There are just some complaints that occur often, no matter how much you plan. The trick to dealing with these complaints is to know what to do in case it occurs to you. We all hope that our travels will be problem free, but sometimes, there is just nothing we can do to prevent them, so if you cant beat them, know how to best cope with them if they do occur. Tradewinds Vacations welcomes you to discuss how you can deal with common travel complaints.

Your Luggage

You stand at the carousel waiting, rather impatiently, for your luggage to round the corner. When it does, you inspect it carefully to ensure that it withstood the rigors of air travel. If for some reason, damage has been done to your luggage, you must report it as soon as possible and before you leave the airport. In order to avoid having arguments about if the damage was caused by the airline, don’t take the chance and wait, simply take the time to report it before you go and save yourself some hassle.

Tips

  • Take a dated photo of your bag before you send it on the plane so you have proof of its condition before you leave.
  • Make sure you report any damage as soon as possible as some airlines have a defined period with which to make your claim, generally, 24 to 48 hours.

Your Passport

You can probably avoid this issue by making sure you do not carry your passport in an obvious place however, if you find yourself with a lost or stolen passport, it is important that you know what to do. If you find yourself with this issue, remember to stay calm first and foremost and then make sure you know where to go to get a new one. You can get a new passport issued generally on the same day if you know where the nearest U.S. Embassy is located and can prove your identity. Make sure that if you have anything stolen, you report it to the authorities as well.

Tips

  • To avoid losing your passport, choose to carry a copy when out on the street and leave your real passport in the hotel safe.
